Spring 2024 Practice Period

Oryoki

“Oryoki, often translated as “just the right amount,” is a highly choreographed ritual of serving and eating food—a ceremonial dance of giving, receiving, and appreciation.”
-John Kain, Tricycle Magazine, Fall 2003

This spring we will study the traditional 3-bowl eating used at AZG during day sits and sesshin. We will begin by reading and understanding the origins of the practice, but primarily we will engage hands-on with preparing bowls, practicing eating together in the formal way, and learning how to cook and serve this way of ‘just enough’.
Class dates are April 7, April 28, May 5, May 26; 1:30-3pm. Tell Elvira that you would like to be in the class. She will provide the study materials to all who sign up.
You CAN be in class without committing to Practice Period!
