Visiting teacher, Rev. Hozan Alan Senauke will be at AZG September 9 -11.

Hozan Alan Senauke is a Soto Zen priest at the forefront of socially engaged Buddhism. From 1991 through 2001 Alan was Executive Director of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. He is currently president of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association. Alan’s non-profit, Clear View Project, focuses on social change and relief in India, Burma, and the United States. Alan is vice-abbot of Berkeley Zen Center, and on the core faculty of Upaya Zen Center’s chaplaincy program. For over three decades he has lived with his wife Laurie at Berkeley Zen Center. Alan has published two books on engaged Buddhism— The Bodhisattva’s Embrace and Heirs to Ambedkar: The Rebirth of Engaged Buddhism in India. He is also an accomplished musician; his most recent recording of traditionally based music is titled Everything Is Broken.
